PROJECTS

We’re a team of innovative engineers excited by focussing on detail and providing original thinking to challenges given to us by our clients. Capable of providing prototypes for proof of concept through to complete certified products ready for manufacture, Skalene can cater for the broad range of clients requirements. Here are some of the exciting projects Skalene has had the opportunity to work on:

UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL

Skalene entered a 3-year collaborative project with Liverpool University's Centre for Genomic Research group to successfully build an automated microfluidic platform for DNA Library preparation.

The system uses 10 times less input sample than standard manual pipetting methods and is fully configurable to support a range of library prep protocols.

AUTOMOTIVE BLACK BOX

Combining a range of technologies, Skalene developed a 'black box' for vehicles incorporating a range of sensors and wireless connectivity options for monitoring and logging driver behaviour.

With the capability of accessing vehicle data, the device provides live feedback for safer and economical driving style as well as long-term data storage for historical analysis offline.

SUREFLAP

A number of small focused investigative work is occasionally required to de-risk projects in the early stages.

Feasibility studies can be a crucial phase of successful projects and Skalene prides itself on providing clients with detailed reports on areas of concern with solutions and results. Skalene provided Sureflap with feasibility studies, results and quality prototypes for demonstrating and testing wireless internet connected pet care devices.

MOTIVE PRO

Comprising of 16 sensor nodes with haptic feedback, the MotivePro wireless motion capture suit provided a cheap effective solution for a variety of applications from music production and dance to sports and computer games.

Working with Cambridge Industrial Design for their aesthetic flare, Skalene produced an electronic design and architecture optimised for compact size and battery life.
